Overview
Modernized a legacy COBOL-based product data management platform and evolved it into a scalable, integrated, and governable enterprise system. The effort encompassed application re-architecture, real-time messaging integration with Tandem NonStop systems, implementation of role-based authorization, and orchestration of end-to-end workflows across procurement and marketing domains.
Challenge
The existing environment consisted of a tightly coupled COBOL system with limited flexibility, heavy reliance on manual processes, and fragmented point-to-point integrations. Ensuring continuity of critical business operations while modernizing the platform posed significant risk. Additionally, the need to integrate with Tandem NonStop systems, enforce consistent data governance, and unify cross-domain workflows introduced complexity across both technical and organizational dimensions.
Approach
Re-architected the application into an ASP/VB/SQL Server stack with improved modularity and separation of concerns. Designed and implemented real-time IPM-based messaging to integrate with Tandem NonStop systems, ensuring reliable and high-throughput data exchange. Developed a comprehensive role-based authorization (RBAC) framework aligned with business workflows for product staging, approval, and lifecycle management. Established standardized integration patterns to connect upstream and downstream systems, replacing manual processes with automated, event-driven workflows.
Results
Delivered a modern, scalable platform that significantly improved maintainability, developer productivity, and system performance. Enabled seamless, real-time integration across legacy and modern systems, reducing latency and increasing reliability. Strengthened data governance and operational control through consistent authorization mechanisms. Streamlined enterprise workflows across procurement and marketing, eliminating manual intervention, improving data accuracy, and positioning the platform for future growth and extensibility.
